Rooftop Rumble (2013)

Rooftop Rumble is a competitive multiplayer arena combat prototype, pitting two to four players against each other on a precarious rooftop arena.

Rooftoop Rumble was my second Unity project and the first in which I had to do any sort of real coding. Up until this point, I had been working on a number of small (1-2 day) prototypes with another game designer. This allowed us to develop and test a number of different mechanics that we felt would work well in a multiplayer arena combat style game. Rooftop Rumble resulted as the culmination of many of the strongest mechanics, as well as some additional features to make it feel more cohesive.

Players attempt to stun each other so that they can more easily knock their opponents from the rooftop. The barrier surrounding the rooftop is destructible and can be whittled down via weapon fire, grenade explosions, or simply by knocking each other into it enough times. Enemies will periodically spawn and attempt to seek out the closest player, functioning as a simple hazard that everyone has to deal with - but that can also provide item drops which may help to turn the tide of the battle.
