Turning the Tides (2013)

Turning the Tides is a strategy board game about turning your opponent’s advantage into your own. Players alternate placing tiles on the board which are oriented in a specific direction, attempting to find the optimal attack route.

This was a very fun project to work on and was my fifth Zero Engine game since first building FILE_ERROR. The goal was to produce a strategy game and at first, I had no clue where to even start. I knew I didn’t want to make a tower defense and anything else seemed entirely out of scope. The idea for the this game hit me while working on a concept for a tabletop game, which essentially ended up killing two birds with one stone for me. I knew that the game itself had to be simple, so I wanted to use 3D assets and lighting to really take the polish up a notch. While the game certainly has a few flaws and could probably benefit from some additional complexity, I’m quite happy with how it turned out considering the time constraint.
